Hello everyone,

I want to give everyone a big pat on the back for your contributions to “Quilts for Fort McMurray”, it’s wonderful how many of you came out and sewed, ironed, cut, donated fabric, donated long arm quilting, sewed on bindings, and donated completed quilts for Fort McMurray. I delivered about 20 quits to Strathmore FCSS and they distributed them to families in the Strathmore area, I also dropped off about 30 quilts to My Sewing Room in Calgary and those quilts were also hand delivered to displaced families in Calgary. I still have about 10 quilts in various stages of completion that will be donated by the end of June. Any of the fabric that wasn’t used will be given to the Wheatland Quilt Guild to use at their Quilts for Fort McMurray sew day on May 26th. A great big Thank You to Sharlene at Beaver Creek Mercantile near Caroline for donating bolts of fabric!! Thanks to all of you for your help!!

I am looking forward to slowing down a bit this summer and enjoying some time with my family, however I will still be offering a few different classes, including Rocky Mountain Bear Claw, and Maple Flurries/Indian Summer.

“Judy” Wednesdays will continue through the summer, 10am – 4 pm $25/day, bring your own meals please check the calendar on the website, and email me if you are planning on joining us, as I am away for a couple Wednesdays throughout the summer.

Instead of trying to organize separate classes for all of Judy’s patterns, I have decided to teach demos of specific techniques used in many patterns on a few of the sew Wednesdays, these are included in the $25 fee, if you would like to learn any of the techniques below, or have a project you are working on please join us. You are welcome to join us and work on other projects as well, the demos are an added bonus. These are not designed to be formal classes, but rather quick demonstrations of some of Judy’s more popular foundation units.

  • Wednesday July 13 will be Wedding Ring demos, everything from fabric selection, organization, making the units, and using the creative grids rulers for all the wedding ring projects.

  • Wednesday July 20 lone star demos, for those of you working on Prismatic Star, Lakeshore Sunrise, or any of the patterns which have a lone star unit.

  • Wednesday August 3 Strip piecing techniques used in Stepping Stones, Cappuccino, Wysteria Lane and Fractured Paint Box.

There is still some room in the 12 Hour Creating on the Bow days throughout the summer as well.

I am welcoming you to gather a group of friends and book your own private “Judy” class with me, my daily teaching rate at Bow Bench Retreat is $350 so divide that cost amongst your group, choose a pattern, and book a date! Weekdays are especially flexible times in my schedule.

I will be running another Technique of the Month Class Staring September 10, Paradise in Blooms is the pattern we will be working on, one Saturday a month for 7 months. The class fee $75/class includes the pattern. Our Mariner’s Compass Class was a huge success!! Many of the ladies completed their quilt tops during the class and they all enjoyed the pace and timing of the classes. Its a great way to break down a larger pattern to make it more manageable, less intimidating. Visit Bow Bench Retreat’s Facebook page to see the photos of all the completed Mariner’s Compass quilts! Thursday, August 10 at 7pm, I will be hosting an information session at Bow Bench Retreat to discuss the details of the Paradise In Blooms Class.

My fellow Certified Instructor Martha Penner, and I are hosting a “Judy” Retreat at the Bloomin Inn, (www.bloomin-inn.com) near Pincher Creek, November 3 – 7. You are invited to join us and work on any “Judy” project you like, while having the expertise and help from TWO Certified Instructors!! We will be giving you many tips and pointers and demonstrating several of Judy’s foundation paper piecing techniques throughout the 4 days. We will also be hosting a trunk show on Thursday evening displaying 40+ samples between the two of us. Patterns, notions and tools will be available to purchase during the retreat. We anticipate this retreat filling up quickly so book early, a $150 non refundable deposit is required at registration, if you pay for your retreat in full at registration you will receive a $50 gift certificate to spend that weekend. We look forward to spending a weekend with you in November!!
